Laparoscopic Repair of Acute Traumatic Diaphragmatic Hernia: A Case Report

Traumatic diaphragmatic hernia (TDH) is a rare condition resulting from blunt or penetrating thoracoabdominal trauma and characterized by the protrusion of abdominal organs into thoracic cavity through ruptured diaphragm. Due to its diverse clinical presentations, TDH often faces diagnostic challenges. Accurate diagnosis relies on imaging studies surgical exploration, with intervention being primary treatment approach. This case presentation highlights young patient who presented Saint George Hospital following injury. The experienced unexplained dyspnea upon admission, revealed herniated bowels in left hemithorax. Laparoscopic exploration confirmed hemi-diaphragmatic tear, transverse colon, omentum, most small bowel, stomach herniating underwent laparoscopic repair, involving reduction peritoneal tension-free closure gastropexy without use mesh for reinforcement. patient’s postoperative course was uneventful, complete recovery achieved. report provides insights management TDH, highlighting importance prompt recognition appropriate achieving successful outcomes.
